Scholarships & Fundraising
The National Student Leadership Foundation makes every effort to assist students and their families with gathering funds for their NSLC program. To this end, the NSLF has created a comprehensive Fundraising and Scholarship program.

It's never too early to start fundraising!!
Scholarship deadline has now passed. Completed applications needed to be postmarked before March 24th.

Fundraising

While the National Student Leadership Foundation would like to meet the financial needs of all students, the large volume of scholarship applicants combined with limited funding, means that not all applicants will receive scholarships. The Foundation has created a comprehensive Guide to Community Fundraising which has helped make the NSLC an affordable experience for all applicants. This guide contains suggestions that have been used successfully by past NSLC students to raise funds while also forging relationships with leaders in their community. In several cases, students have been able to raise funds covering the full cost of their program and travel expenses.

Students who would like additional assistance in their fundraising efforts are encouraged to contact the NSLC enrollment office to speak with one of our Fundraising Counselors at 1-800-994-NSLC (6752). Students may also email us at fundraising@nslcleaders.org.

Scholarships
This year the Foundation will once again make available substantial funding in Merit Scholarships and Need-Based Scholarships. To be considered for a scholarship, a student must be enrolled in the NSLC and have submitted a $250 tuition deposit. If a student is denied a scholarship, or if the scholarship award is insufficient, this deposit will be refunded upon request. Students may only apply for one scholarship.

Merit Scholarships

In an effort to recognize the hard work, talent and dedication of its students, the National Student Leadership Foundation has designated a portion of their scholarship funds to be distributed on a merit basis. Students applying for Merit Scholarships will need to present the NSLF Scholarship Committee with a demonstration of their academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and community leadership. Merit Scholarships will be awarded in the amounts of $250 and $500.

Merit Scholarship Requirements

  • Completed Merit Scholarship Application
  • One Teacher/Counselor Recommendation
  • List of extracurricular activities, honors, and awards
  • Signed by Counselor or Principal.
  • High School Transcript
  • 2 typed essay questions (provided on scholarship application)

Need-Based Scholarships

The NSLC understands that family circumstances may not enable all qualified students to attend the NSLC without financial assistance. Therefore, the National Student Leadership Foundation has designated a portion of its scholarship funds to be distributed on a need basis. Students applying for Need-Based Scholarships will need to present the NSLF Scholarship Committee with a detailed description of their family’s current financial situation, including a copy of their parent or guardian’s latest tax forms and an explanation of any special circumstances.

Due to the large volume of scholarship applicants combined with limited funding, successful applicants for need-based scholarships will demonstrate significant financial need. In addition to actual family income, the NSLF will consider special circumstances, including but not limited to the number of children in the household or being supported in college, a recent illness or death in the immediate family or a recent loss of employment in the immediate family. The maximum Need-Based Scholarship award will not exceed the cost of tuition less the deposit; however, the vast majority of scholarships awarded will be $250-500.

Need Based Application Requirements

  • Completed Need Based Scholarship Application
  • One Teacher/Counselor Recommendation
  • High School Transcript
  • Copy of the first two pages of the most recent 1040 tax return filed by parents/guardians.
  • 2 typed essay questions. ( provided on scholarship application)
