Biotechnology for Engineering

Finding Solutions for a Better World

Note: The Biotechnology Add-On is designed to follow your participation in the Engineering program. While students may attend the program following any session of the Engineering program, the NSLC recommends students participate in the July 25 – August 3 session at Northwestern University.

Biotechnology Add-OnAre you fascinated by biology and chemistry? Do you see yourself using advanced technologies to develop solutions to some of today’s greatest problems in the areas of medicine, energy or agriculture? A career in biotechnology can take you to university laboratories, small technology start-ups or some of the biggest pharmaceutical or energy companies in the world. During the NSLC Biotechnology Add-On, taking place immediately following your Engineering program, you will go behind-the-scenes at some of our country’s most advanced research labs and discover what it takes to have a successful career on the cutting-edge of science and technology.

Hands-on Labs

During a series of hands-on labs, you will learn how scientists and engineers use advances in cell and gene manipulation to provide unprecedented medical treatment to patients suffering from diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

Behind-the-Scenes Visits

While at the NSLC, you will go behind-the-scenes at medical facilities and research labs using biotechnology today. You’ll meet with professionals in the field and discover what career opportunities are available in the biotechnology industry.
