Merit & Need Based Scholarships

Scholarship deadline has now passed. Completed applications needed to be postmarked before March 24th.

$100,000 in Educator-Distributed Scholarships
Our best students are those selected and nominated by educators. We recognize that you are in the best position to identify those students who demonstrate academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and place a high value on community service and social responsibility. We also recognize that educators and academic advisors are in the best position to grant scholarships to students that need financial assistance. With this in mind, each year the NSLC grants 100 educators a $1000 scholarship to distribute to their students. You may choose to give the entire $1000 to one student, or you may choose to give four students a $250 scholarship – its up to you!

Scholarships
This year the Foundation will once again make available substantial funding in Merit Scholarships and Need-Based Scholarships. To be considered for a scholarship, a student must be enrolled in the NSLC and have submitted a $250 tuition deposit. If a student is denied a scholarship, or if the scholarship award is insufficient, this deposit will be refunded upon request. Students may only apply for one scholarship.

Merit Scholarships

In an effort to recognize the hard work, talent and dedication of its students, the National Student Leadership Foundation has designated a portion of their scholarship funds to be distributed on a merit basis. Students applying for Merit Scholarships will need to present the NSLF Scholarship Committee with a demonstration of their academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and community leadership. Merit Scholarships will be awarded in the amounts of $250 and $500.

Need-Based Scholarships

The NSLC understands that family circumstances may not enable all qualified students to attend the NSLC without financial assistance. Therefore, the National Student Leadership Foundation has designated a portion of its scholarship funds to be distributed on a need basis. Students applying for Need-Based Scholarships will need to present the NSLF Scholarship Committee with a detailed description of their family’s current financial situation, including a copy of their parent or guardian’s latest tax forms and an explanation of any special circumstances.

Due to the large volume of scholarship applicants combined with limited funding, successful applicants for need-based scholarships will demonstrate significant financial need. In addition to actual family income, the NSLF will consider special circumstances, including but not limited to the number of children in the household or being supported in college, a recent illness or death in the immediate family or a recent loss of employment in the immediate family. The maximum Need-Based Scholarship award will not exceed the cost of tuition less the deposit; however, the vast majority of scholarships awarded will be $250-500.
