Students from over 70 different countries have attended our interactive summer programs for high school and middle school students.

Our programs emphasize the importance of thinking of your potential impact not only locally but globally, a perspective enhanced by a diverse and far-flung student population. Accordingly, the NSLC is proud to welcome and encourage students from around the world.

Visa Information

Applying for a Visitor Visa

Generally, international students will need to obtain a visitor visa to enter the United States. Students should apply for the B-2 Visitor Visa (for pleasure, tourism or medical treatment) at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over their place of permanent residence. Visa applications are now subject to a greater degree of review than in the past so it is important to apply for your visa as soon as possible. Further information on the visa application process, including application steps and required documentation, can be found on the U.S. Department of State website.

Traveling without a visa

International students from certain eligible countries may also be able to visit the U.S. without a visa through the Visa Waiver Program if they meet requirements, including having a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval. Additionally, citizens of Canada and Bermuda traveling for visitor visa purposes don’t need a visa, with some exceptions.

International Ambassadors

NSLC’s International Ambassador program seeks to:

  • Provide a way for prospective students to connect with alumni who understand their age-specific and culturally-specific concerns
  • Give high school alumni a chance to continue to develop their communication and leadership skills
  • Provide exceptional alumni an opportunity to earn an additional letter of recommendation for college applications or future positions with NSLC

We encourage you to find your country’s Ambassador and contact them about their NSLC experience. Feel free to ask them about the day-to-day programming; adult supervision; housing; dress code; airport logistics, food; etc. They are here to help you!
