At the National Student Leadership Conference on Science & Technology (STEM) students will explore today’s exciting fields of science including medicine, engineering, and biotechnology. With a focus on hands-on activities, each student will spend time building, experimenting and learning the impact science has on society. The program is designed to help students interested in science to explore the various academic paths they may choose in high school, college and beyond.

Hands-On Simulations

Our STEM program for middle school students uses an interactive approach to learning that gives you an opportunity to explore the world of science, technology, medicine, engineering.

NSLC students in our Science & Technology (STEM) program participate in the following hands-on simulations:

  • General Lab: Learning to Pipette
  • Bio-Medical: How muscles and your senses trigger parts of the brain
  • Engineering: Water Filtration Project
  • Engineering: Magnet Motors/Mouse-Trap Car
  • Chemical: Make Your Own Lactose Milk
  • Chemical: Exploring Polymers


Behind-the-Scenes Tours

An important part of the NSLC middle school programs is seeing the sites around our nation’s capital. These trips are designed as both sightseeing tours and educational trips specifically tailored to explore the fields of science.

Students are escorted on all field trips and stay within their TA Group or other supervised groups.

Leadership Development

At the heart of each of our youth leadership programs is a curriculum designed to build concrete leadership skills that will help you succeed. From the beginning of your program you will learn to work as a team during an exciting Ropes Challenge Course. Interactive lectures and small-group workshops will give you an opportunity to build upon your strengths and minimize your weaknesses.
