Experience American history and government in our nation’s capital.

At the National Student Leadership Conference on U.S. History & Government, middle school students will explore the path to American democracy and the legislative process. With a focus on the monumental events of American History, students will engage in interactive simulations to better understand the role of the branches of government. Using the leadership skills developed during the program, our middle/junior high school students will consider how they can be advocates in their own communities.

Hands-on Simulations

The NSLC on U.S. History & Government gives you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the challenging complexities of American history and the political system.

During the Congressional Simulation, you will use your powers of persuasion and negotiation skills as a member of Congress, as you turn a bill into law.

As part of the Federalist Simulation, you will step back into history and debate state’s rights versus the power of the federal government.

An important part of the NSLC middle school programs is seeing the sites around our nation’s capital. These trips are designed as both sightseeing tours and educational trips specifically tailored to explore U.S. History and Government.

Students are escorted on all field trips and stay within their TA Group or other supervised groups.

Leadership Development

At the heart of the NSLC is a leadership curriculum designed to build concrete leadership skills that will help you succeed. From the beginning of your program you will learn to work as a team during an exciting Ropes Challenge Course. Interactive lectures and small-group workshops will give you an opportunity to build upon your strengths and minimize your weaknesses.
