Georgetown University

Notable alumni
Georgetown boasts many notable alumni, including NBA player Allen Iverson, actor Bradley Cooper, and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Civil War influence
Georgetown nearly closed its doors during the Civil War, when almost all of their enrolled students left to fight for both the Union and Confederacy. Upon the end of the war, the students selected blue and gray as the school colors to represent the Union (blue) and Confederacy (gray).

A Hoya or a Jack?
Georgetown had a tradition of naming its live canine mascots Hoya, after their sports team nickname. However, one bulldog would only respond to the name Jack. Since then, the official mascot of Georgetown has been Jack the Bulldog.
