Wondering if NSLC’s Computer Science & Engineering program is right for you? Explore below, read our general FAQs, or reach out to our team. We’re happy to help!
Computer science focuses on software, algorithms, and how computers process information, while computer engineering combines software with the hardware and electronic systems that make computers work. The two fields overlap in areas like robotics, artificial intelligence, and embedded systems. At NSLC, you’ll explore both sides, from coding and data analysis to circuits and sensors, giving you a better understanding of how they work together.
Not at all! NSLC’s Computer Science & Engineering program welcomes students with no previous coding or engineering experience. You’ll be introduced to foundational concepts before applying them in hands-on challenges involving programming, data, and technology. Whether you’ve already built your own projects or you’re just getting started, the program offers opportunities to experiment, collaborate, and develop new technical skills.
Yes! Rather than focusing on just one area of computing, NSLC’s Computer Science & Engineering program introduces you to several connected fields. You’ll explore how data can inform decisions, how machine learning systems recognize patterns, and how cybersecurity professionals protect digital systems. You’ll also investigate the hardware and software behind modern technology, helping you discover which areas interest you most.
Coding is an important part of computer science, but there’s much more to the field than writing software. Computer scientists also study how algorithms work, how data can reveal patterns, and how technology can solve complex problems. At NSLC, you’ll explore these ideas alongside computer engineering, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. It’s a chance to discover which parts of computing interest you, even if programming isn’t your favorite.
Absolutely! Computer science and engineering can lead in many directions, from software development and robotics to cybersecurity and data analytics. Exploring several disciplines in one program can help you identify what you enjoy, whether that’s solving coding problems, working with hardware, analyzing information, or designing new technologies. You might even discover that a field you expected to love isn’t quite right for you. That’s useful information to have before choosing a college major.
